The war is in the air. Fighter pilots of the 178th Aviation Regiment

One of the nodes of the air defense was the Lipitsa airfield, where the 178th fighter Aviation regiment was based. The airfield was located near the village of Lipitsy on the Oka floodplain. The airfield operated long before the war, but there were no hangars on it, and the runway was unpaved, on a flood meadow, which was not yet open at that time. The I-16 fighters, and there were 33 of them in total, appeared here in June 1941.
