2024 is the 79th anniversary of the Great Victory, but this year also marks the 80th anniversary of the defeat of Nazi troops in the Arctic. During the terrible and merciless war, many events occurred that still disturb the souls of millions of people. The brilliantly conducted Petsamo-Kirkenes operation has gone down in world history forever. And the feat of the Soviet troops who expelled the Nazis from the Kola land became a memorable day for all Northerners.

In connection with this significant date, the radio amateurs of the Hero City of Murmansk decided to issue the call sign "Radio Pobeda 79 Heroes of the Arctic = RP79GZ"

During the Great Patriotic War, fierce battles were fought on the territory of the Murmansk region, both on land and on water. The German military and political command had aggressive plans to seize the strategically important Kola Peninsula.

I would like to remind you once again about the events of those terrible years.. Recall the heroes of the Arctic and their exploits: the hero-submariner Magomed Gadzhiev, the first Hero of the Soviet Union in the Northern Fleet Vasily Kislyakov, fighter pilot Boris Safonov, the feat of commander Anatoly Bredov and Nikita Ashurkov, as well as the heroes of the guerrillas of Partizansky Island. The year 1942 was especially difficult for the Murmansk region. June 18 became a black day for Murmansk – almost 12 thousand bombs were dropped on the city. During this difficult time, the partisan detachments "Bolshevik of the Arctic" and "Soviet Murmansk" were created in the Arctic, which included boys and girls. They were thrown onto a Guerrilla island where there was nothing. And it was not an island at that time, but just an unnamed part of the earth, except that it was mentioned as height 137.2. Only 42 years after the war, the Council of People's Deputies of the Murmansk region would decide to assign a toponym to Partizansky Island.

The events of the terrible days of the defense of the Arctic are getting further away from us. But memory is not just textbook lines, dates, figures, facts. First of all, memory is a living connection with history.
