The city of military glory is Kronstadt. He played an important role in the breakthrough and in the liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi blockade. Kronstadt sailors fought near Leningrad, near Moscow, in Stalingrad, in the North Caucasus, in the Crimea, in the Arctic and on the territory of Nazi Germany, participated in the storming of Berlin.

In the Barbarossa plan, the small town of Kronstadt was mentioned along with the largest industrial and political centers that the fascists needed to take in order to further capture the Soviet Union. But they didn't pass. The defense of Kronstadt is inseparable from the history of besieged Leningrad. The fortress city became a fire shield on the way of fascists to the city.

During the Great Patriotic War, the residents of Kronstadt shared the hardships of the blockade. Kronstadt was under siege along with Leningrad. The artillery of Kronstadt defended the approaches to Leningrad from the west and southwest. A "Small Road of Life" was laid across the ice of the Gulf of Finland through Oranienbaum, forts, Kronstadt and Fox Nose. Ships were repaired at the Kronstadt Marine Plant. Bypassing the German minefields from Kronstadt, submarines went out to sea.

The heavy artillery of the powerful forts of the fortress city closed all approaches from the sea to the enemy. During the Great Patriotic War, Kronstadt defended Leningrad from the enemy. Even before the declaration of war, the Germans began bombing the city. More than 400 Luftwaffe planes could not break through to Leningrad here.

Kronstadt before the war, unlike many other cities, was in full combat readiness. The city became the last stronghold of the Baltic Fleet, its new base, after its departure from Tallinn. Large caliber forts of the fortress covered the fleet and inflicted serious damage to the enemy. The air defense system reflected massive air raids.
