On June 26, 1941, fulfilling their obligations under the Barbarossa plan, Finnish troops launched an attack on Leningrad from the north

west. Vyborg took the first blows of the enemy. Most of the city's workers and employees went to the front and to the people's militia.

The evacuation of residents and property was carried out in an organized manner. After fierce battles on August 29, 1941, Vyborg was abandoned

to the enemy. On June 10, 1944, the Vyborg offensive operation began. Step by step the Soviet Army recaptured Vyborg

the ground, destroying enemy fortifications. On June 20, 1944, the city was liberated. In the battles on the Karelian Isthmus and for liberation

In Vyborg, 93 formations and units received the name “Vyborg”.

In 2010, Vyborg was awarded the honorary title “City of Military Glory” (Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of March 25, 2010 No. 341).
